Imron industrial paint is still available. Strobels Supply stocks the Axalta Imron line (formerly DuPont Imron), including Imron 2.1 HG and Imron Industrial Strength, plus the activators, reducers, primers and clearcoats that go with them. Imron polyurethane coatings are used on fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery and structural steel where gloss retention and chemical resistance matter.

What the Imron Product Codes Mean

  • 2.1 / 3.5: VOC content in pounds per gallon. Choose 2.1 where local air rules are strict.
  • HG: high gloss. HG-D: high gloss, direct to metal, so it can go on without a separate primer on suitable substrates.
  • PR: primer.

A Typical Imron Paint System

  1. Clean and prepare the surface: degrease, then sand or blast bare steel.
  2. Prime with a Corlar epoxy primer, or use an Imron HG-D direct-to-metal topcoat.
  3. Mix the Imron topcoat with Imron activator at the ratio on its technical data sheet.
  4. Thin with the recommended Axalta thinner for your temperature and spray.

Imron is a two-component polyurethane that contains isocyanates. Spray it only with proper ventilation and a supplied-air respirator.

Imron Paint FAQ

Is Imron the same as DuPont Imron?

Yes. DuPont's coatings business became Axalta in 2013, and Imron kept its name. Today it is sold as Axalta Imron.

Can you use Imron paint on cars and trucks?

Yes. Imron is widely used on fleet trucks, buses, trailers and equipment, and on some custom and classic vehicles, because of its gloss retention and chemical resistance. For everyday collision repair, shops usually use Cromax or Nason.

Where can I buy Imron paint?

Imron is sold through authorized Axalta distributors. Strobels Supply is an authorized Axalta distributor, and you can order Imron, Corlar and Tufcote products online with prices on each product page.
